For many of us, love is always in the air. And a wonderful way to celebrate that wonderful emotion is to view a great romantic comedy with someone you love. After all, a good romantic comedy not only makes us laugh, but leaves us feeling like love will actually triumph over all.
The ten top choices must include two Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan vehicles, “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail”. The “Sleepless in Seattle” scene on the Empire State observation deck when Hanks’ little boy goes back to get his teddy bear and as a result, Hanks and Ryan connect is one of the all time classic love scenes. Is this new to you? Catch up here Another great choice is “Serendipity” with John Cusak and Kate Beckensale. Two star crossed lovers leave their relationship up to the fates and find each other again just before one is about to marry someone else.
“When Harry Met Sally”, with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is an epic celebration of love and the absurdities of life. And any top ten list should include “Pretty Woman” with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in a classic Cinderella story. “Never Been Kissed” sends Drew Barrymore as a reporter back to high school where she falls in love with her teacher. “27 Dresses” takes Anne Hathaway from bridesmaid to bride. And “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” follows erstwhile Jason Segal from the depths of a breakup to the heights of a new love.
“50 First Dates” follows Adam Sandler as he woos lovely Drew Barrymore who has no short term memory. And my personal favorite, “American Graffiti” where Ron Howard sacrifices his opportunity to go to an Ivy college to stay close to home to be with Cindy Williams. So rent any of these and prepare to laugh and to be uplifted.
